The Alien Upstairs

Description

In the not so distant future, everything's in short supply--not enough jobs, not enough food, not enough hope. The police and the National Guard have kept things under control but there's only so much territory they can handle: they've begun abandoning whole counties, evacuating large sections of the cities. Sarah and Gerry are doing the best they can.

But there's never any shortage of strange people, and a real weird one has just moved in upstairs from Sarah and Gerry. He claims to be an alien, and everyone thinks he's crazy--but somehow Raf Courn has access to things that no one's seen in years: caviar, champagne, an amazing collection of hardcover books. The more Sarah and Gerry learn about Raf, the more they being to suspect that, strange as he is, he may not be crazy...

Their quest for the identity of Raf Courn takes Sarah and Gerry to places they never knew existed, and brings them, finally, a kind of hope they'd nearly forgotten.
