Because the ban on hydrofracking has been lifted just as the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the agency that will have to monitor this controversial natural gas drilling technique, is slated to lose another 321 jobs. All while the New York Times is being attacked for pointing out that people in the gas industry are calling shale gas extraction a "giant Ponzi scheme."
Marital equality is now the law in New York state, and for once I can be proud that I live in Albany!
V.S. Naipaul is also a great writer, and one whose fiction and nonfiction I have read and reread over the years. A great human being? Not so much, and does that matter? Ta-Nehisi Coates posted a comment by "Hilzoy" on the writer and the man:
"It would be a mistake not to read Naipaul. He's a gorgeous, gorgeous writer. . . he's also one of the best examples around of someone who is (imho) deeply worth reading, but whose treatment of both women and blacks (esp. blacks outside Africa) is just horrific."
